It was a real pleasure to be invited to Lansdowne Church Care Homes Ministry Team Training day. This is a large multi campus church in the Bournemouth area and, this team has around 40 members visiting Care Homes across Bournemouth.
The day started with some Safeguarding training delivered by someone who works for the local council's safeguarding team and then we ran a Dementia Friends session followed by a session looking at running dementia friendly church services and how to communicate and minister effectively to those living with dementia.
Following on from this the teams looked at practical ways that they could change what they were already doing in order to be more effective in the ways that they shared the gospel and fellowship with those living with dementia when they visited.
This was a brilliantly organised event by Lansdowne church and a real privilege to have been able to play a part in the day. I have no doubt that the impact that Lansdowne will have in this ministry will be highly valued by the care homes they visit and effective in delivering church to those living with dementia.
It is really powerful when churches work intentionally to reach specific groups, and this was a great example of this.
